I was so excited when I was asked to photograph R & M's intimate gender reveal at Zora's Farm in Langley. They had let me know in advance that they were planning to use confetti cannons, and that their friends and family would be participating by setting off smoke bombs as well. Having had pretty low-key gender reveals myself (my husband and I found out via email... and with our youngest we let the eldest cut a cake. As soon as she confirmed she was getting a sister, all she wanted to do was eat the cake. Which is fair, especially for a 2 year old) I couldn't wait to witness a big, dramatic reveal.
Their set up was so cute, and their friends and family had also prepared a few games for the lead up to the big reveal. R & M were experts at guessing the baby items by touch! It was so sweet that their friends and family put so much effort into making it a day to remember for them – in fact I ended up having a hard time narrowing down the photos I wanted to include in their final gallery because the love and excitement really just shone through in every moment I captured.
We got super lucky in that golden hour was just beginning as they were ready to do the reveal. I always get a little bit nervous when I'm photographing big moments like this – if somehow you end up with a camera malfunction, or you trip, or a bug flies in front of your lens at exactly the wrong moment... you've missed it and that memory is not coming back! So best believe I had my shot framed up and as soon as the countdown started I was snapping away. It turned out that mom's instincts, along with 3 of 4 grandparents, were correct – they're expecting a little baby GIRL!
Afterwards the pink smoke hung in the air for a few minutes and we managed to snag a few shots right in front of it. It made for such a beautiful, ethereal feel to the photos and I love how they turned out!
It was such a beautiful evening and I'm so honoured I got to be a part of it! So many congratulations to the new family of 3, and best wishes as they await their baby girl's arrival.
